PLEASANT HILL - December 2014. The PHEI and FPHE have merged to form a multi-faceted organization focused on enhancing the educational experience of Pleasant Hill students. The goals of the two groups were very similar and now, the combined effort will have an even greater impact on available educational opportunities and materials.
The merger adds a programs arm to FPHE’s established fundraising mission. Innovative educational programs created/supported by PHEI include:
- Reading Readiness - providing reading tutors in elementary schools
- Night of 1000 Inventions – an annual event where the Pleasant Hill Library is transformed into an inventor’s lab
- Pleasant Hill Reads – city-wide reading program recently focused on "The Invention of Hugo Cabret" written and illustrated by Brian Selznick
- Green Team Activities - including school recycling programs, movie nights, and fresh produce in school salad bars
- Junior Achievement - civics program available in five schools
If you would like to volunteer for programs and/or become more involved with FPHE, now is an excellent time to do so. You are welcome to attend monthly FPHE Board Meetings on the third Wednesday of each month (7:30 pm, PH Community Room) or email email@example.com to provide information as to how you would like to help.
A revised FPHE mission statement and goals will be published in early 2015.
